UNIQUE STONE-MANSION IN THE VILLAGE MELANA The house was built in 1916 by then Melana’s famous stone-builder Charalambos as his own residence and was restored in the period 2002-2003. It was an architect’s residence and office from 2004 to 2009. As he recently moved into a new built house, the Charalmbos House is looking for a new landlord. It is built on a landscaped 610 m2 plot at the highest point of the village with panoramic views over the Argolis, Livadi and the South Aegean Sea. There is a total surface of 303 m2 laid out over three levels with paved courtyards and individual entrances on each level. The lower floor (85m2) has been converted into an independent apartment with living area, bedroom, mezzanine, bathroom and kitchen. The middle level includes a large sitting room, a bedroom, bath and kitchenette while there is an internal staircase leading to the upper level which is comprised of two bedrooms, a living room with fireplace, dining room, kitchen, bathroom and a covered terrace with panoramic views. Unique is the vaulted entryway on the middle level. The mansion is a small museum of the traditional building art and techniques of the area. The simple and crossed stone-built vaults in the lower levels were usually used in churches and monasteries and are not typical for residential buildings. Cornerstones were brought from the Epidaurus area while the wood for the roof construction, floors and rafters had originally been cut and treated the correct, traditional way, so that it was in top condition when we restored the building some years ago and there was absolutely no need to replace it. The restoration only involved very minor interventions. The lowest level is the only one where modern materials were used in order to deal with humidity and has been converted into a living space, while all water, heating and electricity installations have been replaced as well as most of the wooden windows. Finally, the house is equipped with oil central heating, air conditioning in the upper level, solar warm water boiler, separate storage room 12 m2 and a traditional wood oven. There are 2 parking places. Kissakas pebble beach is in a distance of 2 km.
