About: Chalkidiki, Greece

Halkidiki (also known as Chalkidiki or Khalkidiki (Greek: Χαλκιδική)) is a famous Greek peninsula located in the North of Greece – close to the city of Thessaloniki (in the southeastern portion of Central Macedonia). Halkidiki consists of a large peninsula in the northwestern Aegean Sea and resembles a hand with three fingers (in Greek, these ‘fingers’ are referred to as legs). The three fingers are called Kassandra, Sithonia and Agion Oros (the ancient Acte - which contains Mount Athos and monasteries). The first Greek settlers in Halkidiki came from Chalcis (Halkis) and Eretria, cities in Euboea (Evia). The ancient city of Stageira was the birthplace of the great Greek philosopher, Aristotle. The capital of Halkidiki is Polygyros - located in the center of the peninsula. Its most populous municipalities are Moudania, Kallikrateia, Polygyros, and Kassandra and its largest towns are Nea Moudania (Νέα Μουδανιά), Nea Kallikrateia (Νέα Καλλικράτεια) and Polygyros. Halkidiki has many summer resorts located on all three fingers. There are many stunning villages, incredible homes and villas and some of the best beaches in all of Greece (famous for their crystal waters and pure white sand).
