This stone house has a large rear garden and views to the sea from the upper verandah. The house is located in the old traditional village of Fylaki – the name Fylaki means 'prison' as there were prisons there during the Turkish occupation of Crete and part of one of the prisons is still standing. It is an extremely quiet village, situated 2 Klm from Episkopi and 5 Klm from the old Roman town of Lappa – with the famous springs at Argyroupoli, which is famous for its many tavernas set among the old water mills and springs which supply the nearby town of Rethymnon with water. The house is on a plot of 270 m2 with a good sized raised stone garden and store room. The house is on 2 floors; and upon entering the arched gate there is a small walled courtyard and then 2 glazed doors – one leads into the kitchen and the second into the sitting and dining room area separated from the kitchen by a double stone span arch. This area has a toilet with wash basin. At the rear of the living room area there is a double arched door leading out onto a walled patio area with a pergola covered by a mature vine, and the garden has various shrubs and fruit trees. A stone staircase leads from the kitchen to the first floor – into a corridor with 2 bedrooms and the main bathroom - with shower and toilet. From the corridor and also from both bedrooms which have double patio doors – there is access to the large verandah via glazed doors. The verandah has a pergola, and provides excellent views over the surrounding mountains and the sea. All rooms have ample power sockets, telephone and TV access. About: Chanion, Crete, GreecePer square mile, Crete must be one of the most "loaded" places in the world -- loaded, that is, in the diversity of its history, archaeological sites, natural attractions, tourist amenities, and just plain surprises. In a world where more and more travelers have "been there, done that," Crete remains an endlessly fascinating and satisfying destination. Few travelers need to be sold on the glories of the Minoan culture of Crete. But Crete also offers cities layered with 4,000 years of continuous inhabitation, including the vibrant heritage of centuries-old Orthodox Christianity and the distinctive imprint left by almost 700 years of Venetian and Turkish rule. Not to mention endless beaches, magnificent mountains, intriguing caves, resonant gorges, and countless villages and sites that provide unexpected and unforgettable experiences. An elaborate service industry has developed to please the many thousands of foreigners who visit Crete each year. Facilities now exist to suit everyone's taste, ranging from luxury resorts to guest rooms in villages that have hardly changed over several centuries. You can spend a delightful day in a remote mountain town where you're treated to fresh goat cheese and olives, then be back at your hotel within an hour, enjoying a cool drink on the beach. |
