About the area ... Selia is a small village in Crete, Greece, in the municipality of Vamos, in the prefecture of Chania. The village is located in between the towns of Vamos and Georgioupolis on the Drapano Peninsula, close to the north coast of the island, in the Apokoronas region. It has a winter population of 50 and a summer population of about 150. Sellia is divided into Upper and Lower Selia. It is a very small, quiet rural village with many older homes and plenty of traditional Cretan charm plus views of the Cretan White Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. The village has a basketball court, playground, art galleries and traditional elementary school. The Church of the Holy Spirit is built in 1800 and is decorated with carved temple and Byzantine icons. Also, opposite the school there is a beautiful stone building. Special features are the old stone houses, narrow streets and stone vaulted cisterns. Scattered in the fields are stone vaulted cells. Around the village within a radius of 10km there are the beaches of Georgioupolis, Obrosgialos in the head, Almyrida and Kera and Maistrali and beaches of Kalives. Sellia is 5 km away from Vamos where there are health center, pharmacy, bank, school, county court, police station, post office, restaurants and supermarkets.
