Description: Caldera House With Dramatic Sea Views

Oia always was and still remains one of the foremost tourist attractions of the Aegean Sea. The famous Oia sunset, considered by many as one of the most beautiful in the world, keeps tourists flocking down to the castle, waiting for the moment when the sun slips down on the calm sea of the caldera. Located atop the caldera cliff of the traditional village of Oia Santorini in the Cycladic islands, this house is considered a prime real estate opportunity. It has easy access from the village’s main path with a few stairs and the nearby public parking can be used for the vehicles. The house was built in the early 1800s as a private home, with an airy and well-lit internal courtyard. The current owner renovated it in ‘05-‘06 with many architectural features and a flexible layout. This traditional house is now connected to the adjoining villa by two internal doorways, but it can easily be separated and function as an independent house. All the antiques and decorative artwork are included in the asking price. This very charming house covers a total area of about 90 sq.m. It disposes of 2 large rooms, 2 marble bathrooms and a sunken marble-bath spa room, as well as a walk-in closet. The living spaces communicate with the kitchen, a small dining room or study and a small terrace.

About: Santorini, Cyclades, Greece

Santorini (Greek: Σαντορίνη) and officially Thira (Greek: Θήρα), is an island in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km (120 mi) southeast from Greece's mainland. It is the largest island of a small, circular archipelago which bears the same name and is the remnant of a volcanic caldera. The municipality of Santorini comprises the inhabited islands of Santorini and Therasia and the uninhabited islands of Nea Kameni, Palaia Kameni, Aspronisi, and Christiana. Santorini is essentially what remains after an enormous volcanic explosion that destroyed the earliest settlements, on a formerly single island, and created the current geological caldera. The island is the site of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history: the Minoan eruption (sometimes called the Thera eruption), which occurred some 3600 years ago at the height of the Minoan civilization. The eruption left a large caldera surrounded by volcanic ash deposits hundreds of feet deep and may have led indirectly to the collapse of the Minoan civilization on the island of Crete, 110 km (68 mi) to the south, through a gigantic tsunami.
