Ano Gerakario is a small unspoilt Greek village, lying 14 kilometres to the north of Zakynthos town and ten minutes from the small family holiday resort of Alykanas. It is a village of narrow winding lanes just wide enough for two donkeys to pass and is blissfully peaceful. The house which is almost in the centre of the village was built in about 1954 and was completely renovated by the present owners in 2008. And the work was done with loving care. Every traditional feature which could be retained, was retained. Where that was not possible, it was replaced with similar materials in the same style. One of the main features of the house is that it provides complete privacy. The wrought iron entrance gate leads under a vine laden pergola to the front door and to the rear there is a substantial courtyard with stone patios shaded by three orange trees, a small planted area, the entrance to the kitchen and outbuildings which help to ensure total privacy. The house, built on a plot of 241 sq.m. provides 80 sq.m. of accommodation as follows; Dining kitchen with many traditional features including open fireplace, stone floor, beamed ceiling, recessed shelving with wine rack and hand made cupboards, units and work surfaces.
